Track starts sprinting into season

The Galena East Dubuque River Ridge (GEDRR) boy’s track team has not had a winning record in some time, however things may change this year with a much larger turnout from all three schools involved. The track team has started off strong in a new direction. This year the track team looks to focus on different exercises specializing on endurance and strength.

This year has had many more athletes who are going out for boy’s track this year. “There are many more players this year, so we can enter more events, which will get us higher on the leaderboard,” said senior Brandon Sinagra. The larger numbers also mean more diversity in events. “With our variety of people, we can enter a variety of events,” said Sinagra, “and there is more potential this year than last year.”

Along with the larger numbers, there is a change in practices. “Practices are a lot different, there is more hard-work,” said Junior AJ Rodriguez. Each day participants from Galena and East Dubuque are bussed over to River Ridge to practice on an actual track, though lately the weather has forced the track time to work inside of the school. Still, this does not stop the team from working hard. Running through hallways, and doing intensive core work keeps the team occupied and involved.

The track team is looking at a great season between having larger numbers this year and a hard-working team. This year has already seen a better record with the team coming in third and second in the first two meets. Everyone is anticipating a great season from the boys track team this year.
