Spring break is coming up

Spring break 2017 is the week of March 20, and students are saying that it is either too short, or they are not able to do what they would like because they will be playing sports or working. Students responded to a Spyglass survey and some shared what their dream spring break vacation may be, with commonly occurring answers such as “somewhere tropical,” or “a longer break.” Of the students who responded to the survey, 50% said they will be going on vacation over our spring break, and the other 50% of people responded that they will not be going on vacation as they will be working over the break.

Along with sports and work, many students have complained about having homework over spring break. Yes we have a week to work on it, but most kids will just procrastinate until the day before break is over. If we had a longer break, then students would be able to balance their time between working, sport, homework, and of course spending time with friends or relaxing.

The Galena High School students were asked about having homework over break and one responded, “It should not happen.” Someone else responded, “I think you have enough time to get it done so it shouldn’t matter.” Most people said that homework should not be included in break because we should spend the break doing our own thing and not homework.

Students’ dream vacations were, “Never ending,” “Go to Michigan,” “Road trip with friends,” “Road trip with family,” and “Go on a camping trip.”

Therefore, based on the Spyglass survey, many students feel that spring break should either be longer, or filled with more activities that are chosen by them.
