The Pirates rolled on the West Carroll Thunder under the Friday night lights on September 21. The Pirates defeated their formidable opponent with a score of 10-0. The team was ecstatic to win their first Homecoming game since the 2015 season.

“It was awesome to finally win a homecoming game,” said junior Henry Anderson. “We also got to silence all of the doubters that thought we couldn’t win.” Anderson is the quarterback for the varsity team.

Late in the second quarter the Pirates kicker Libra Aguirre nailed a 21-yard field goal right through the uprights. The Pirates went into halftime with confidence in their lead, but hungry for more points.

The third quarter was a tough defensive battle lead by Galena’s big defensive line. After the scoreless third quarter the Pirates came out hot on their first possession almost producing a score, but being prevented by the Thunder.

Midway through the fourth quarter Anderson took the snap on the Pirates own 33 yard line. He rolled to his left and dropped a dime to his senior wide receiver Conner Einsweiler, the catch and run by Einsweiler totalled a 67 yard touchdown play putting the pirates up 10-0 after the extra point by Aguirre.

The Pirates continued to play lockdown defense forcing a turnover on downs late in the fourth. The pirates with the ball were able to take victory formation, and take a knee to run the clock out, and savor the oh so sweet victory.
