Fore: Tyler Moran ’18 watches as his ball tracks right for the pin. Moran will compete at the state tournament on Friday, October 12.

On Monday, October 8, the boys golf team competed in the IHSA Section Competition at Silver Ridge Golf Course in Oregon, Illinois. The team took 6th place overall and did not qualify to move on to the state competition.

On an individual level, Senior Tyler Moran advanced to the IHSA State Golf Tournament with a score of 79. He will play at Prairie Vista Golf Course in Bloomington Il, on October 12 and 13.

Moran shot an 79 at sectionals placing him at 9th high individual. Moran will be continuing a now four year streak of Galena sending an individual to the tournament. Following a two year qualifier Kane Hyde, and last year’s Jack Einsweiler.

“I’m so proud of Tyler getting to advance, this has been a four year dream of his and it finally got to happen,” said Galena Coach Greg Fleege. “Tyler has always been a huge leader of the team, and he drives his teammates to always work harder on the course.”

Moran will take the course on Friday hoping to stay above the upper half of the field in order to make the cut, and qualify for the second day of play.

“I’m so excited to finally go as a player!” said Moran. “I’ve sat back and watched the past two years, but now I get the chance to show what I’ve got!”

The rest of the Pirate nation wishes Moran the best of luck at State!
