Lady Pirates mean business

 

On Thursday, October 25, the Lady Pirates went head to head for the regional title against the Fulton Steamers.

The Pirates won both sets against the Steamers. The first game was 25-16 and the second game was 25-15, making them winners of the IHSA regional championship title.

Morgan Wills ‘19 had the most kills this game with a total of 8. Then with serves Sami Wasmund 20’ made 10/10 of her serves with 5 of them being aces. Mackenzie Muehleip 20’ had a total of 3 blocks. Drew Wasson 19’ racked up a total of 20 assists and Samantha Stoffregen 19’ had a total of 26 digs.

The Galena Lady Pirates have been regional champs for the past 5 years. This is a very big accomplishment for the volleyball program.

Muehleip 20’ said “Winning the 5-peat championship, which is a school record, is a pretty big deal. I am so excited to be apart of this team and I can’t wait to see where we go with the rest of the season!”

With Sophia Heisler 19’ out with a broken ankle Maggie Furlong 22’ and Abby Soppe 21’ are filling in to play her position. Furlong 22’ said “It is really exciting to be able to have this opportunity to play at such a high level as a freshman, my teammates have made the transition very easy and have made me feel like part of the team, I take pride to be part of  such an amazing group of lady pirates.

 The Pirates will play Forreston in Port Byron on Monday, October 29th at 5:30pm.
