The Galena High School Junior Varsity Basketball Team has had a really good season. Currently their record stands at 10 wins and only two losses.

One member of the team, sophomore Sydney Benson, is finding her place again on this team after returning from an ACL injury that benched her last season.

“I’ve had to be really careful about contact,” Benson said. “I couldn’t do much during volleyball season. However this basketball season, I’m feeling a lot better and am able to do more.”

All of the girls are playing a key role in the season. Together the team has a total of 531 points, and 40 of those are from Benson.

Benson has been so happy to get to play with her team again. “It’s a relief to be back and play with my friends, again,” she said. “I’m very happy to finally be recovered.”

When Benson tore her ACL it was something that she will remember and it’s something that motivates her to keep improving and to recover from her accident. Benson said, “It definitely was something that was hard for me. I know that I will continue to get better if I use my accident as a stepping stone.”

“Sydney has really been working hard this season to get better,” said Mackenzie Muehleip ‘20. “She is a great player and I’m happy that she is back playing again!”

The junior varsity team is doing well this season and will continue of show off their talent throughout the rest of the season. The next JV/V game will be held at Galena High School on Wednesday, January 23rd vs. Stockton. The JV game will begin at 6 o’clock with varsity to follow.
