JV girls continue to win

Speeding past the defense. Kate Moran ‘21, goes in for a lay up after a steal and a fast break. The Pirates played the Orangeville Broncos that evening and beat them by a score of 41-11. “When you get a fast break, all eyes are on you,” said Moran. “I just focus on beating the defense down the court and making my lay up!”

The Lady Pirates have had a pretty successful season so far with a record of 14-3. Nearing the end of the season their record is looking pretty good.

They started of the season on Nov. 28 with a win against Stockton with a final score of 33-26. The girls then played another game on Nov. 30 and defeated Le-Win with a final score of 31-28.

The girls followed up this game with another win on Dec. 1 against Benton shutting them down with a score of 45-14. Kellyn Romer ‘21 said, “At first we were weak because we didn’t know how to play together but, we built strong bonds with one another and we have improved a ton since the beginning of the season.”

The girls then had their first loss in a game against Eastland on Dec. 4, they lost by a score of 31-50. Abby Soppe said, “Losing to Eastland was hard because we knew that they were good and we all had off games during that game, after this game we worked hard in practice to come back and get a win against Orangeville.”

The girls came back from this loss with a win against Orangeville on Dec. 7, the final score of this game was 41-11.

The following day the girls played against Durand and racked up a win. The girls beat them with a score of 43-25. The same day they played against Pearl City and beat them with a score of 51-48.

The Lady Pirates had another game on Dec. 11 against East Dubuque and they lost to them by a score of 19-32. Natalie Stangl ‘21 said, “We play East Dubuque again on Jan. 23 and I think that we can beat them since we have been working better together as a team and have been working hard in practice.”

The girls then racked up another win on Dec. 15 against Pecatonica. The final score of the game was 32-22. On Dec. 21 the Pirates played against Pearl City and won again with a total score of 32-22. The girls then again played one more game before Christmas against South Beloit. The girls won with a score of 35-21.

The girl’s first game back from break was on Jan. 3, they played Shullsburg and won with a score of 26-24.

On Jan. 9 the Lady Pirates played a game against West Carroll. They destroyed West Carroll with a final score of 49-12. They then won again against River Ridge- Scales Mound with a final score of 39-20.

The Pirates then played the Le-Win Panthers once again on Jan. 15 leaving with another win and an impressive score of 39-27.
