Pirate Competitor of the Week – November 1, 2021
Junior volleyball player Taylor Hilby is this week’s Pirate Competitor of the Week sponsored by Galena Culver’s and the Galena Gazette.  In last week’s regional, Hilby totaled 17 digs, 17 kills, 3 blocks, and went 8/9 serving.  According to coach Dennis Wills, “Taylor turned in two very solid performances which helped accelerate us to victories over Scales Mound and Durand and onto winning the regional title.  Taylor’s game has been steadily improving and it is just at the right time! She has accepted some new responsibilities on the court and has worked hard to improve our team defense. Great job Taylor!” Taylor was honored with a gift basket from the Galena Culver’s, as well as a newspaper courtesy of the Galena Gazette.

Also Nominated:
Coach Ed Freed nominated the Senior football players, saying “Our senior football class just finished an impressive Varsity career. They played a big part in going 5-1 last spring and helped lead our team back into the playoffs this season. Their contribution and effort was on full display in a close loss to 4th ranked Forreston in the 1st round of the playoffs 22-14. We had great numbers in this class with 16 of them and everyone had a role on the team and contributed in some fashion. They truly will be missed, but have left their mark on our program as the group that led us back into the playoffs. The seniors include Drew Gansen, Carson Miller, Evan Ettleman, Gabe Garcia, Zidane Lopez, Kyler Furstenburg, Kevin Trinidad, Calvin Quick, Payton LuGrain, Jarrett Basten, Brady Schemehorn, Jacob Heisler, Julian Garcia, Tony McDermott, Ethan Hefel, and Isaac Somers.
