Pirate Competitor of the Week (May 2, 2022):
This week, we recognize two members of the GMS Track team as our Pirate Competitors of the Week sponsored by Galena Culver’s and the Galena Gazette.  8th grader Sam Amaya and 6th grader Vinny Gullone each won the 1600m event at last week’s Lena Invitational.  Sam won the 8th grade division with a time of 5 minutes and 45 seconds while Vinny collected the 7th grade division win with a time of 6 minutes and 25 seconds.  According to coach Kyle Knight, “Vinny and Sam both did a great job of battling the cold temperatures and brisk wind to collect their victories.  They both do an outstanding job of pushing themselves in practice and are excellent leaders at practice.”  Sam and Vinny were honored with a gift basket from the Galena Culver’s, as well as a newspaper courtesy of the Galena Gazette.

Also Nominated:
Junior soccer player Julia Townsend was nominated by coach Jorden Rijpma for “her hard work on the field and her leadership on the team. This is her first year playing soccer and she’s already a key player. Tuesday against Prairie Du Chien she set up the 1-0 by dribbling around the defense and providing the assist.”
