Jack Ries and Sam Eaton Galena Football

Jack Ries had a big homecoming night contributing in all phases to help the Pirates to a 40-8 homecoming win. Jack rushed for 158 yards on 11 attempts and 3 touchdowns. One of his touchdowns was an 86 yard run. He also had 2 catches for 50 yards, 6 tackles, and one fumble recovery. According to Coach Freed, “Jack continues to make a big impact in all phases of the game for us. His opening catch and run on the first play gave us a lot of momentum and his 86 yard run for a touchdown was one of the longer touchdown runs in school history. Jack is a total team player and a great leader for us.”

Sam Eaton also had a big night rushing the ball as he had 14 carries for 133 yards and a touchdown. Sam also contributed 4 tackles and a big interception and return to stop a Stockton drive. Coach Freed said, “Sam has been making some big explosive plays for us all year on both sides of the ball. He has worked extremely hard in the off-season to help prepare for this season and his hard work is paying off to help his team get back to .500 and a big homecoming win over rival Stockton. He is also a great leader and a good example for our younger players.”

Alexa Stroyan 7th Grade Volleyball – Coach Emily Rigopoulos said, “Alexa Storyan is consistent with her serving this season and does a great job placing the ball. She collected 7 aces over our win vs. Southwestern on Thursday. Alexa is getting stronger at the net each week. She has made improvements throughout the season and always has a positive attitude!”

Ava Merritt 7th Grade Volleyball – Ava Merritt had 5 blocks and 6 aces between her two games in victories over Benton and Southwestern. Coach Rigopoulos stated,”Ava has done a great job in her position as a middle hitter this season. She is consistently working hard in practice and is a leader on and off the court. Ava does a great job placing the ball and getting to the block. She is strong at the net and quick in the back row.”

Colten McCartney-8th Grade Football – Colten McCartney had a big game in helping lead the Pirates 8th grade football team to their first victory of the season over rival Stockton.  He threw for two 15 yard completions and a 2 point conversion.  Colten also had a 65 yard running TD on a bootleg.  He was just as effective on defense at outside linebacker with three tackles for loss, a fumble recovery and the game sealing INT with less than a minute left in the game. Coach Sincock said “Colten has done a nice job this year playing QB which is a new position for him from last year.  He is a great athlete and has adjusted well to the new spot.

Keinan Lyden-8th Grade Football – 8th grade football player Keinan Lyden also had a big game at running back for the Pirates in helping lead the team to a victory over Stockton.  Keinan had 12 carries for 105 yards including two 40 yard TD runs.  He also added a 2 point conversion.  Keinan also had 10 tackles defensively from his middle linebacker position.  Coach Sincock commented “Keinan is our go to back on offense and is very capable of breaking a big play at any time.  He runs extremely hard and doesn’t go down easily.”
