Pirate Competitor of the Week – Gracie Furlong Girls Varsity Basketball

Gracie Furlong helped the Pirates to three big wins last week. Coach Watson said, “Gracie averaged 15 ppg this past week and filled up the stat sheet at Southwestern on Tuesday.  Gracie led the team in steals (13), rebounds (6), deflections (12) & assists (5).  Her 13 steals are the 8th most in a single game in IHSA girls’ basketball history!  On Saturday, Gracie scored 14 points and was a key to our great defensive effort in a big win at the Wendy’s Classic, vs Bellevue.  Gracie is off to a great start to the season.  She is averaging 18.6 ppg and nearly 8 steals per game!  She is a force on the defensive end and her offensive game continues to evolve.  Her ability to consistently make impact plays makes her one of the best players in the state of Illinois.  She was a huge part of our run to state last season and we’re excited to see what this season will bring with Gracie getting better and better each day.”

Other Nominations

Kolby Knautz Boys Varsity Basketball – Coach Wienen commented about Kolby, “This week in a tough loss to Bellevue, Kolby had 5 points, 5 Rebounds, 3 assists and 4 deflections.  Kolby is one of the hardest working players we have on our Varsity team this season.  I know every day in practice Kolby is going to be there ready to go and give it his all! Last season Kolby got a great opportunity to start a lot of meaningful games for us as a junior. I feel that playing in those games has truly helped Kolby prepare for his senior season. He used what he learned last year of how teams are going to defend him and what things he did well and not so well and used it as fuel to get better this past summer. Kolby is one player I know what he’s gonna give day in-day out. He is a very strong kid that knows how to use his body to position in the post and grab rebounds. Kolby is one of the best teammates on this year’s team.  Kolby just wants to win and doesn’t care about other things that are out of his control.  He gives 100% effort every day!  Looking forward to what the rest of this season has to offer for Kolby!
