Pirate Competitor of the Week

Taylor Burcham Varsity Girls Basketball – Taylor had a big week helping lead the Pirates to three big wins. She averaged 12 ppg, 6 reb, and 2 assists. Coach Watson commented, “She had a season high 19 points vs Potosi/Cassville, to go along with 6 rebounds.  She also hit 5 threes in that game.  Taylor continued her big week with 11 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals vs Rockford Christian.  Taylor also played really well in our big home win vs Winnebago on Saturday.  The biggest play of the game was one that many people won’t remember.  A quick decision and an extra pass to get her teammate a wide open three and open up our lead late in the game. Taylor does so many things well on the basketball court.  She can guard all 5 positions on the floor and always battles for loose balls and rebounds.  She has been an all-conference performer her first two seasons for us and we are excited to see her hard work continue to pay off.”

Other Nominations – Owen Hefel Boys Basketball – This week Owen helped the Pirates to a 1-1 record.  In the two games Owen averaged 6 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assist and 1 steal. Coach Wienen said, “In the game vs Warren on Saturday, Owen played a big role in our comeback from 15 points down in the 3rd quarter to almost pulling out the win.  Even though Owen is only a freshman, he has been a huge part of not only our Varsity team but our JV team as well. He’s excelling at both levels, which is a great sign of his maturity so far this season. He’s a dedicated player that wants to win, no matter what is asked of him. His ability to see the floor and make good decisions is what makes him such a good player for us. He excels at the role we’ve asked him to do and as a coach, that’s all you can ask of a young player. Looking forward to seeing what the rest of this season brings for him and the next 3 years!”
