What to Wear to Winter Formal
In December last year, students were very confused about the appropriate attire for Winter Formal because it was labeled “Not- so- formal- Winter Formal.” This year, the student council decided to clear up any questions by naming the December dance “Winter Formal.”
What does a person wear to Winter Formal? Is it like homecoming or prom? For the winter dance newbies out there, your prayers have been answered. Katie Furlong, Drew Peebles, and Kali Feldermann are veteran Winter Formal go-ers, and they have the 4-1-1 when it comes to dresses and appropriate “guy attire.”
“I am wearing my homecoming dress from this year. You should look nice, but don’t feel like you have to go out and buy a new dress. You can basically wear whatever you’d like,” Katie Furlong said. Girls are encouraged to re-wear dresses or trade with their friends.
Drew Peebles, Katie Furlong’s date said, “I’m wearing sweatpants and a sweatshirt… just kidding, khakis and a button- up.” For boys, khakis are the way to go for Winter Formal. They can decide on what shirt to wear, and ties are optional. The guys get a lot of leeway for winter dances!
“I am wearing a long sleeved deep red lace dress. I picked red for Christmas,” Kali Feldermann said. Since it is winter, dark colors such as black, gray, and dark reds or blues are popular. Festive metallics like silver and gold also work for Winter Formal.
The second annual Winter Formal is on December 3 from 7 to 10 p.m. at Galena High School. It is a “Sadie Hawkins format”, so girls should ask boys to be their dates to the dance. Date or no date, the student council urges every student to go, as it will be a blast!
