Proposal adds to perfect gameday
During the week of January 2nd, the JV team had a some eventful games that ran the gamut from pulling an impressive win against Richland Center to having their head coach, Justin Bauer propose to his girlfriend, who said “Yes!”
The beginning of the game was a series of runs going back and forth between the two teams, until all of the excitement started happening in the few remaining minutes in the fourth quarter. Morgan Wills continued to get hotter and hotter while Alexa Haase scored a much needed free-throw in the last seconds of the game. Still down one of the JV starters, Gracie Wubben, went down to a knee injury.
“Having an essential teammate go down with an injury was difficult for the team, but we stayed up and worked even harder,” said Alexa Haase.
But, in a turn of events, Lizzy Eaton came out of the time-out and scored a three-point basket giving the Pirates the lead to the game. Then, to finalize the win, Morgan Wills ran down the court to get an easy lay-up for the win against Richland Center.
Immediately after the Pirates won the game, JV Coach Justin Bauer proposed to Megan Dauphin in center court, directly in front of the entire Pirate Nation.
“Proposing to my girlfriend and having the team win our game made that day unforgettable,” said JV Coach Bauer.
“It was amazing that we pulled off the upset against Richland Center who is a 3A school, while being able to be a part of Coach Bauer’s proposal,” said Morgan Wills.
Then two days later, the Pirates went on to play the talented Warren junior varsity team. Once again, the team pulled off the upset and adding the team another win for the week. On January 12th, the Lady Pirates fell to a tough game against the West Carroll Thunder ultimately ending their winning streak.
