Varsity team puts it all together

The Varsity Boys Basketball team has had a pretty good season so far this year. With an overall record of eight wins, nine losses, and a conference record of three wins and three losses, they are staying in the game this season.
With half of the season left, the Pirates still have time to get their record looking even better.

The boys started off the season with two games and a tournament in the same week. On Nov. 19 the Pirates had a face off against East Dubuque, and they were demolished by a score of 35-61.

They then played again on Nov. 21 against Fulton and racked up their first win for the season. The Pirates beat the Steamers by a score of 54-48.

The Pirates played in a tournament on Saturday Nov. 24. First, they faced the River Ridge Wildcats, and lost by a score of 50-72.

They then played their second game and were able to pull out one win in the tournament against the Orangeville Broncos, defeating them by a score of 52-49.

The next week the boys went up against Southwestern and suffered defeat with a final score of 46-58.

Then again playing against East Dubuque and were once again defeated by the Warriors with a final score of 33-59.

Jack Einsweiler ‘19 said, “This was our second time losing to East Dubuque and it was tough, but I have faith that we will get them next time and will hopefully be able to pull out a win. Or stay in the game more than we have before.”

The Pirates then had a tournament on Dec. 8. They first played against Fulton. This was the Pirates’ second time playing versus the Steamers, who had been their first win of the season. The Pirates fell to the Steamers this time with an ending score of 54-58.

Chance Wills ‘20 “It was hard to lose to a team that we had already beat but, adding a win to our record is always better than nothing.”

In that same day the Pirates got another win for their record. They went head-to-head with the Stockton Blackhawks beating them with a score of 50-41.

The Pirates played next on Dec. 12, against Unity Christian and demolished them with a score of 59-23.

In that same week the Pirates had a Saturday game on the fifteenth verse Scales Mound. The Pirates lost a close game with a total score of 44-46.

The next Saturday after, Dec. 22, they had played a game against South Beloit. The Pirates won by a landslide with a score of 60-32.

The boys then had a three game win streak after coming back from winter break.

The first game they played on Jan. 2, against Orangeville. The Pirates won with a total score of 46-42.

The Pirates once again played Scales Mound and were able to pull out a win. The final score of the game was 60-55.

The Pirates final game in their winning streak was against the Warren Warriors with a final score of 53-35.

Tyler Moran ‘19 “We were really excited after getting three wins in a row because it really helped us to improve our record. As well as to push us to keep it going, and work hard in practice to keep racking up the wins.”
