Defeated on the mound
The Galena High School Varsity baseball team was defeated on Thursday, Apr. 1 at Southwestern. The Wildcats beat the Pirates with a score of 11-1.
In the first inning the Wildcats got six runs. “It sucked to have that be my first varsity start on the mound,” said first time varsity pitcher Henry Anderson ‘20. But I won’t hang my head about it I’m just going to keep working hard in practice to be better.”
In the second inning the Wildcats scored another two runs while the Pirates were still at a score of zero. Chance Wills ‘20 said, “we just did not have a good game and we didn’t show up ready to play.”
Finally in the fifth inning the Pirates got their first run. Will Nack ‘21 said, “we had a slow start and we didn’t play well, we couldn’t throw strikes which lead to them getting so many runs and we made some errors but finally in the bottom of the fifth inning we were able to put something together and get some runs.”
The Pirates had two different pitchers throughout the game. Anderson had 25 strikes and 53 pitches. Chris Simon ‘19 who also pitched had 24 strikes and 45 pitches. Simon said, “It was a lot of pressure on me being the relied on closer for the game but I gave it my all and was able to get a few strikeouts.”
The baseball team plays again on Thursday, Apr 4 at home against Warren/Stockton starting at 4:30pm.
