Storming Dalzell Track
The JV and Varsity Galena / East Dubuque / River Ridge girls track team came out in the top ten at the Tri-State Invitational. The team competed at Dubuque Senior on Tuesday, April 2. Junior varsity finished seventh with 47 points and Varsity placed eighth racking up 56 points.
In the 800 Sprint Medley, Morgan Wills ‘19 and Lizzy Eaton ‘20 got sixth out of eleven teams. “The meet went very well,” said Eaton. “We competed against very strong Iowa schools and had great competition. My relays kept up with the other schools we ran against.”
Freshman Sydney Einsweiler placed seventh in the 1500 meter race for junior varsity. Her time was matter of seconds compared to the top place finishers with a 6:34:45. Einsweiler was on the 4×800 relay placing third as well. Another freshman, Avery Engle, finished in ninth place out of 18 other girls in the 400 meter dash.
Sammi Digman ‘19 competed in a large heat of 23 for the 100 meter hurdles. She came in ninth with a 18:83. Digman ‘19 said, “It’s always important to run against people from bigger schools that help push you.”
Great job ladies! Their next home meet will be at River Ridge on April 8, 2019. The rest of their meets are located in the Spring Sport’s Program.
