Panthers claw up the Pirates
The Galena Pirates baseball team lost against the Lena-Winslow Panthers baseball team on Tuesday, April 16th. The Pirates ended up losing to the Panthers by a score of 3-5.
In the first inning things were looking up for the Pirates with three runs leaving them leading the score. Henry Anderson ‘20 scored the first run for the pirates. “It felt great to score the first run of the game especially since we were able to score so early,” said Anderson, “It made me feel optimistic and helped the gain some momentum that should have been carried into the following innings.” Following Anderson, Evan Kruse ‘19 and Cody Allendorf ‘19 also scored runs in this inning leaving the pirates with a score of 3-0 at the beginning of the second inning.
Then there wasn’t much action until the fourth inning where the Panthers were able to score a run leaving the score at 3-1. Then again in the sixth inning the Panthers scored four more runs leaving the score at 3-5. Brady Schemehorn ‘20 said, “Our infielding wasn’t the best so they were able to get more runs than we would have liked.”
Evan Kruse pitched for the Pirates and threw 80 pitches last night with 57 of them being strikes. Kruse said, “We played a good game last night but one bad inning got the best of us.”
The Pirates play again on Thursday, April 17th at home versus West Carroll varsity starting at 4:30.
