Creativity, self-expression, and a passion for all things art can be defined as NAHS. National Art Honor Society, formerly known as the GHS art club, is now recognized as a more prestigious club. Requirements for membership include taking at least one art class throughout high school, maintaining a B or higher in your art class, and completing at least 20 hours of art-related community service throughout the year.
All these requirements work towards successfully spreading art throughout the community. When students meet all the requirements, they receive cords to wear at graduation. All members receive a certificate and card from the national chapter.
Mrs. T is the advisor of this club and she works with student-elected officers who help ensure the club runs smoothly. The 2024-2025 officers include President – Liliana Asta ‘26, Vice President – Gracie DuHack ‘25, Secretary – Molly Beadle ‘25, Treasurer – Max Schulz ‘26, Chair of Awards – Layla Schemehorn ‘27, Chair of Ceremonies – Avery Ziegler ‘25, and Visual Documentarian – Violet Doyle ‘26.
Asta said, “NAHS is one of the most involved clubs at our school and you can always find something to do.” NAHS also works very closely with the Galena Center of the Arts, whether it’s hosting the fall and spring art shows or members volunteering at showcases and events.
Other yearly events include a Secret Santa art gift exchange, Pinwheels for Peace, cards for veterans, I love GHS because…, and more! If interested in joining this club please attend the August 28 informational meeting or reach out to Mrs. T or any officer to express interest.
