Senior Night to recognize football, cheerleading, cross country, color guard and marching band seniors will be held on Friday, August 30. Recognition of seniors will start at approximately 6:30 pm before the 7:00 football kickoff.
The senior class of 2025 has 10 senior members on the football team and two senior cheerleaders. Grace McIntyre, has been participating in cheerleading for the last nine years. “I am excited for homecoming week and performing the cheer dance,” she said. The cheerleaders have worked hard all summer long preparing their routines for the games and extra pep rallies.
On Friday, the football team plays Eastland with kickoff at 7 pm. Jose Hernandez ‘25, running back, linebacker and kicker for the Pirates said, “I’m excited for a win against Eastland. I have the best hopes for any future football player and want to see the team grow.”
Senior night has been a tradition for all seniors at GHS for many years. Students and their parents walk across the field as they are introduced, and honored for their time on the team. This tradition is something students look forward to. “It’s nice to be recognized for all the hard work I’ve put in over the years. Senior night is always something to look forward to.” Said Alfredo Jimenez ‘25.
Friday night’s game will be the Pirate’s first home game of the season, and should be exciting. Galena beat Eastland Pearl City with a score 28-6 on 8/25 of last year. Head Coach, Mr. Freed had a lot to say about the game at hand, “This will be a great game. Both teams return to the field with more experience, stronger, and better,” he said. “Galena is hungry to beat Eastland Pearl City. Yet we’re both much better than last year, both teams want to hit the playoffs this year.”
With both teams coming back better than before, can Galena take the win?
