When she thought about life after high school, class of 2024 graduate Abby Ehler never imagined that she would be going back to GHS this fall. “This was never something I saw myself doing, especially since I never did cheerleading when I was in high school,” said Ehrler.
This year, the cheer team unfortunately wasn’t planning on having a coach, that was until Ehrler stepped up to do it. “I really wanted to help out the school and give not just cheer more recognition, but also give more attention to these girls,” she said. Ehrler’s mission to get information about cheer out there has gone amazing, “I think she’s doing a great job at promoting the team,” said Mrs. Bookless, a GHS teacher.
“I really hope I’m doing a good job, they call me Mama Abby so I think that’s a good sign,” Ehrler said. The whole cheer team only has good things to say about her, her hard work and dedication really show, “She’s done so much and sacrificed a lot for us, doing college as well as coaching is nowhere near being easy,” said sophomore Sabine Blaum, “I couldn’t imagine not having her as our coach. She’s done an amazing job so far.”
One final question is what a lot of people have been asking, will she continue to be the coach? “I’ve really loved it this year, so yes, I do plan on continuing this for as long as I can,” said Ehrler.
So far this year Ehler has helped the team get new uniforms, new poms, new bows, and a lot more. The cheer team’s future looks bright, and it looks like Abby doesn’t plan on stopping her support for the team. “
