On September 3rd, the girls Galena Volleyball team played at home against the Rockford Christian Royal Lions.
Before the game started, Outside Hitter #4, Gracie Furlong ‘25, was recognized for her 1000 kills.“I think that it was cool to be honored for my 1000 kills and it shows me that my hard work is paying off.” Said Captain Gracie Furlong ‘25.
During the first set, Setter #1, Abigale Merritt ‘25, assisted Furlong in a kill. Merritt was able to hit her 1000th assist in the game and was met by a plethora of applause and support from friends, family, and Pirate supporters. “I was happy that I hit it right away so I didn’t have to worry about it,” said Merritt ‘35, “It was cool to be able to hit it at home in front of all of Galena instead of at an away game.”
The game was a tough one. The girls lost their first game 15-25. But they bounced back, they were able to win the second game 25-23. Galena and Rockford went into the third game. “I knew we could win the next two,” said Furlong. “I knew that if we played even slightly better, we would pull through with a win, but the most important thing was playing as a team, and we did that.” “I think our passing could have gone better as well as our communication, it was a hard first game but it prepared us for the on coming season.” Said Abigale Merritt ‘25. The girls worked hard and were able to win the last game 25-19. We can’t wait to see how their season will go!
