The debate surrounding the mandatory use of gym uniforms at GHS is highly debatable due to the wide range of perspectives on the benefits and drawbacks of such a requirement. To get a better insight into people’s opinions on this topic, the publications class sent out a Google form asking GHS students their own opinion on whether gym uniforms should be mandatory or not; here’s what they had to say.
Yay!: Why students think gym uniforms should be mandatory…
- Ian Faulkner ‘27 said, “If you wear your normal clothes in gym you would stink.”
- Mrs. Hawkins Principal of GHS commented. “Yes, gym uniforms should be mandatory because it ensures that all students have suitable clothing for the class.”
- Brady Turner ‘25 that they would not want to be around a whole bunch of sweaty people all day.
Many students support the idea of mandatory gym uniforms for gym class because they believe that wearing proper workout attire can help prevent them from smelling bad all day. They argue that wearing specific gym clothes designed for physical activity can help them stay fresh and comfortable during and after their workout sessions. Additionally, they believe that having designated gym uniforms ensures that everyone is dressed appropriately for physical activity, which can contribute to a more focused and effective gym class experience.
Nay!: Why do students think that gym uniforms should not be mandatory for gym class…
- Sebastian Ensign ‘25 said, “I believe that if a person is capable of bringing in suitable clothes for that gym day, it should be fine.”
- Evelyn Callahan ‘25 said “The school does not have very good heating. So during the winter students should not be required to wear gym uniforms instead they should be able to wear sweats, leggings, and sweatshirts.”
Many students believe that gym uniforms should not be mandatory because they feel that individuals should have the freedom to choose what they wear for physical education classes. They argue that some students may have specific clothing preferences or may feel uncomfortable in standard gym uniforms and that they should be allowed to wear suitable alternatives that make them feel more at ease during physical activities. Additionally, students express concerns about practical issues such as temperature regulation, particularly during colder weather, and believe that being able to wear warmer clothing like sweats, leggings, and sweatshirts would be more appropriate and comfortable for certain situations.
