On October 1, the National Art Honor Society held its first studio night in Mrs. T’s art room. Studio nights are used to give members of NAHS, or any student at GHS, a space and time to work on their personal or assigned artwork. This is a great opportunity for people interested in working on their art who may not have the time, space, or resources otherwise. “Us officers and Mrs. T have been talking about making these studio nights happen for a while now so I’m glad we got the first one in the books!” Molly Beadle ‘25
With the first NAHS art show of the year coming up, this also gave members the perfect opportunity to get a start on their pieces for the show. The theme for the fall art show is outer space, aka “Spaced Out”. It will be held on November 7, from 5 – 6 at the Galena Center of the Arts. “I’m making a piece out of charcoal and chalk,” said Abigail Issleb ‘28. “It is a self-portrait with a night sky behind me and reflects the way I get lost in my imagination at times.”
The goal of the NAHS studio nights is to hold monthly studio time in Mrs. T’s room. “Having this time to get guidance and feedback from Mrs. T is a great way to improve on my artwork,” said Jayme Frank ‘26 This is exactly the type of atmosphere the studio nights strive to create for students and it is evident that it has been successful so far.
Studio nights normally last for two hours and are now set to be held once a month. About 15 kids attended the first night, Mrs. T played music and everyone worked on their projects and made small talk. “The atmosphere of studio night was lowkey and chill for real,” Max Schulz ‘26 said. “The best part about it was having an open space to work on my art.”
Good vibes, work time, and amazing artwork are all things you can find at NAHS studio nights. All GHS students looking to work on artwork can benefit from these nights. Be on the lookout for upcoming studio night dates, hope to see you there!
