Pirate Co-Competitors of the Week
Brant Romer-Boys Golf
Brant advanced to the Sectional Meet by placing in the top 10 individuals at the Galena Regionals. He won a playoff for 9th place with two other golfers. He scored a birdie on hole one to secure 9th place. He will represent Galena on Monday in Rockford. Coach Fleege said, “His next goal is now to go to state and I know he’s got it in him.”
Julia Dominiak-Girls Golf
Julia placed 9th at the Pearl City Regional and she will now represent Galena at the Sectional in Byron on Monday. Julia has had a great season and has been the medalist in three meets this season. Coach Dave Hahn said, “Julia qualifying for sectionals under cold and extremely windy conditions and finishing in the top 9 was amazing!”

Eli Schumacher 8th Grade Football – Coach Tyler Sincock said, “Eli had another outstanding performance in a 52-0 victory over Lena-Winslow this week. Final stats are 3 carries for 150 yards and 3 TD’s and 2 receptions for 88 yards and 1 TD. Eli has great athleticism and produces a lot of explosive plays for our offense.”
Sawyer Hackney 8th Grade Football – 8th grade football player Sawyer Hackney also had an efficient night in the win over Le-Win. Coach Sincock said, “Sawyer had 3 carries for 145 yards and 3 TD’s and added two 2 pt. conversions. Sawyer and Eli give us a great one-two punch in the backfield.”
Cooper Vincent 7th Grade Football – Coach Sincock said, “7th grade football player Cooper Vincent had a great night in a 28-0 victory over Lena-Winslow. Cooper had 4 receptions for 70 yards and 2 TD’s. He also added a rushing touchdown. Cooper also gives us a lot of toughness and tackles well on defense.”
Coy Smith 6th Grade Football – 6th grade football player Coy Smith had a 35 yard TD reception in the 6th grade’s 8-6 defeat against Southwestern/East Dubuque this week. Coach Sincock commented, “Coy is also one of the leaders on defense from his middle linebacker position. He loves the game of football and practices and plays extremely hard.”
Mason Smith Varsity Football – Mason played a big role in the 28-7 victory over Fulton on Friday night. His 98 yard interception return for a touchdown helped seal the victory. Mason also had 6 tackles, 2 batted passes, and a fumble force on defense and 3 catches for 36 yards on offense. Coach Ed Freed said, “Mason really stepped up for us-he did a good job in our secondary coming up and making some big tackles. A big key in a close game is turnovers and his interception for a touchdown and also forcing a fumble were important plays”
Max Schulz Varsity Football –
Coach Ed Freed commented, “Max made the most of his opportunity to play as he came in early in the game and made a big impact at his cornerback position. He did a great job of tackling and playing the ball. He had a big interception to stop a drive and also made a couple of big plays on deflections in their end zone right before the half to deny Fulton receivers a touchdown. Max has given our defense a boost in the secondary and we look forward to seeing what he can do the rest of the season!”
