On October 2, the Galena Boys Golf team and the Galena Golf course hosted the IHSA golf regional competition. There were a total of 12 teams that competed in the regional. The teams were Rockford Lutheran, Rockford Christian, Hanover River Ridge, Forreston, Dakota, East Dubuque, Winnebago, Pearl City, Warren, Galena, Stockton, and Rockford Christian Life.
To be selected for this even the golfer must have an 18-hole average. The coaches then decide who goes based on the average. The 6 golfers that represented Galena were Quinn Wells ‘25, Adam Simmons ‘25, Brant Romer ‘27, Drew Phillips ‘26, Caiden Duplessis ‘26, and Mason Smith ‘26.
After 18 holes the top 3 teams were decided. First overall was Rockford Lutheran. In second, Rockford R Christian, and in 3rd, Hanover River Ridge. “Regionals was a bit of a struggle, however, I tried to just enjoy the day regardless of the outcome,” said Adam Simmons who shot 2nd on his team.
The 10 individuals who advanced into sectionals were Kaden Brown from Forreston (Jr), Jace Hale from Winnebago (So), Darin Greenfield from Forreston (Jr), Daylen Rahn from Forreston (So), Koehn Lawler from Dakota (So), Ethan Shulting East Dubuque (Jr), Caleb Staaland from Rockford Christian Life (Fr), Ethan Stelen from Stockton (Sr) Brant Romer from Galena (So), and Nathan Woodly from Pearl City (Sr).
Galena sent their very own Romer after he won the playoff hole with a birdie to clinch the 9th spot. “During the playoff hole, with everyone watching I had confidence and knew I could do it,” said Romer.
Sectionals began on October 7th at the Muah-Nah-Tee-See Golf course in Rockford.
The teams that participated in this prestigious event were Port Byron Riverdale, Rockford Lutheran, Fulton, Spring Valley Hall, Rockford R Christian, Hanover River Ridge, Brimfield, Taylor Ridge Rockridge, Peoria P Christian, Roanoke R Benson, Erie, and Aledo Mercer County, and additional solo players that were the only players to represent their schools. Galena sent their very own Brant Romer to compete in sectionals. Brant shot a 60 through the front nine and a 58 through the back nine. In total, he shot a total of 118 strokes through 18 holes.
