Pirate Competitor of the Week – Monserrat Solano Girls Cross Country Monserrat finished second overall at the NUIC Conference Meet on Saturday as a freshman. Her runner-up finish helped the girls win the team title. Coach Michael Eyres said, “This is her first year of running, and she has been improving every week. In her first meet of the year at Rock Falls she ran 30:28 over 3 miles. At our Conference meet only two months later on an extremely tough course, she ran a PR of 22:46. She has a lot of potential and has a great future in running. We are lucky to have her on the team!”
Other Nominations
Tessa Gempler Girls Cross Country – Coach Michael Eyres said, “Tessa Gempler ran the best of her career at the NUIC Conference Meet. She finished 12th to earn an all Conference award. Tessa is the lone returner from last year’s team and put in a ton of work over the summer. She has steadily been improving, but these last few weeks she has really stepped it up. Last year at the conference she ran 27:26. This year she ran nearly 3 minutes faster to finish in 24:49.”
Macie Weber 8th Grade Volleyball – Coach Kailyn Stumpf said, “Macie truly is a one-of-a-kind player. When she is out on the court, she plays with heart and gives it her all. She’s a role model for her peers, on and off the court as well. Macie has grown tremendously over the course of the season and it’s been fun watching her grow. She will do great things in the future! Macie helped lead the 8th grade team to victory last Saturday with 3 aces and 11 kills. Way to go, Macie!”
Jose Hernandez Varsity Football – Coach Ed Freed said, “Jose is having a great season for us kicking the ball. He made a 27-yard field goal from the hash with 8 minutes left in the game to get the score down to 6 with LeWin. He followed that up with a perfect onside kick that we recovered to give us a chance for the go-ahead score. Jose has been a very reliable and consistent kicker for us. He has placed the ball in the correct spots on kickoff all year and has done an outstanding job kicking our PAT’s. I am very glad to see all the hard work and dedication he has put into his craft pay off! Great job, Jose!”
