Congratulations to Pirate Competitors of the Week – Vinny Gullone and Peter Wagner. Coach Michael Eyres said, “Peter has had a breakout season and continues to make massive progress every meet. Last season his 3-mile PR was 20:57. Saturday at regionals he ran a PR of over 30 seconds to run 16:33. That type of jump is extremely rare. We had three guys finish within a second of each other on Saturday. Peter was leading that trio for the latter half of the race and kept on the pace. His efforts helped us secure a spot in next week’s sectional meet. Vinny also ran the best race of his career at regionals and set a PR of 16:33 as well. Vinny has broken every freshman record we have and was the top freshman in our conference by far. His Middle School Mile PR was 5:26. He nearly averaged that pace for 3 miles on Saturday. He has been doing football as well this year, so he has had to do most of his runs at 6 AM. He is tough and can push himself extremely hard in races which is a rare trait for a freshman to have. Peter and Vinny and have been helping each other all year in races. When one has a tough race, the other is always ready to step it up and help lead the other. It is only fitting for them to come up clutch at regionals with huge PRs and finish within less than a second of each other. With those two alongside Andrew Richardson, the future is very bright!”
Other Nominations – Alivia Northrup and Lydia Connor JV Volleyball
Coach Ashley Phillips said, “Both Alivia and Lydia were my captains this year and have done an awesome job at being leaders on and off the court. This weekend in Eastland, Alivia led the team going 46/51 with 7 aces at the serving line and also had 23 digs. Lydia went 18/19 with 5 aces and 27 digs. I am so proud of these girls!”
