Lit Tea: A Student Staple or an Overpriced Indulgence?
The Spot, a popular local beverage shop owned by Michelle Trapino, has become a go-to spot for many Galena High School students. Known for its creative and flavorful drinks, including daily specials and customizable boba options, The Spot has captured the hearts of many. But is it truly a staple in students’ lives, or is it an overrated and overpriced indulgence?
Many students, like senior Lily Jackman, swear by The Spot. “I go about three times a week,” she says, “because I enjoy the friendly atmosphere and the delicious drinks.” The convenience of its location and the welcoming staff have made it a popular pre- and post-school hangout.
Michelle, the mastermind behind the unique flavors, often draws inspiration from community preferences. “Sometimes I come up with the flavors myself, and other times I listen to what the customers want,” she explains.
However, not everyone is a fan. Some students find the prices to be excessive, particularly for high school budgets. Freshman Andy Issleb, for example, believes the drinks are too expensive and inconveniently located. Many students prefer more affordable options like Starbucks or Dunkin’ Donuts.
While The Spot offers a refreshing alternative to coffee in a small town, its high prices remain a significant drawback. A single drink, including a tip, can easily cost over $10. Some students suggest that Michelle could sell pre-packaged versions of popular flavors, allowing customers to recreate the experience at home for a fraction of the cost.
Ultimately, whether The Spot is a staple or an overrated indulgence is a matter of personal preference and budget. While its unique flavors and friendly atmosphere have made it a popular choice, its high prices may limit its accessibility for some students.
