Pirate Competitor of the Week – Gus Nack-Varsity Football
Gus had a big day in helping the Pirates to a big win over Ottawa Marquette in the second round of the playoffs 33-6. Coach Freed said, “Gus had a huge day at linebacker as he had 8 tackles and an amazing 5 tackles for loss. He also had an interception with a nice return and a fumble force. Gus had a great week of preparation as we asked him to be our quarterback on defense making the calls and getting everyone lined up. Our defense played great as the Varsity pitched a shutout and Gus played a big role in that. Gus is continually improving each week making his reads and he always brings great effort. We are excited to see what he can do for the rest of his career!”
Other Nominations
Will Anderson-Varsity Football – Coach Freed commented, “It is great to have Will back on the field as he was sidelined with an injury and missed 4 games this season. Will is a dominant player for us on both sides of the ball and having him back gives our team a big boost. At the defensive tackle position he forces opposing offenses to scheme to either double team or run away from him and he played a big part in holding Ottawa to only 35 yards rushing on 41 attempts. On offense his explosiveness and strength gives us a great advantage to run behind him as the Pirates rushed for 266 yards on 29 attempts. Keep it up Will-great job!”
Josh McNett-Varsity Football – Coach Freed said, “Josh has had a really good season for us. We asked him to move more to an H back this season besides also being a tight-end and he has really embraced it and done a great job blocking for us. His blocking has paved the way for some big explosive runs for Roman and Myles on Saturday. His pass catching abilities make him a big threat for opposing teams. Josh also had a good day at Defensive End knocking down two passes and recording 3 tackles. He is a quality punter and did a good job Saturday helping us out with good field position all day.”
