Galena High School’s annual Halloween costume contest, hosted by the Student Council, was a spooky success this year. The event, which encourages students to embrace their creative side, was a welcome break from the usual academic routine.
“Every year, it’s exciting to see GHS students dress up for Halloween,” said Mrs. Rosenthal. “Whether it’s a simple costume or an elaborate creation, it’s always a fun way to boost school spirit.”
This year’s contest featured a wide range of imaginative costumes. Avery Ziegler’s ‘25 skeleton makeup was particularly impressive, while Lucy Heller ‘28 and Casey Mann’s ‘28 KFC duo was a crowd-pleaser. “We saw the idea on TikTok and knew it had to be done,” said Heller. “We were a bit disappointed not to win first place, but making it into the top five was still a huge accomplishment considering the time and effort we put into the costume.”
The top three spots were fiercely contested. First place went to the dynamic duo of Claudia Liberg ‘25 and Addison Zambrano ‘25, who channeled their inner Step Brothers. “We threw the costume together at the last minute,” said Liberg. “We were worried that the pieces wouldn’t arrive on time, but luckily they did, and we ended up winning!”
Laila Keene Wienen ‘25 took second place with her spot-on Papa Smurf costume. “I chose it last minute and knew I had to go all out,” she said. “Painting my face was the perfect way to complete the look.”
Averi Reiger ‘26 and Quincy Kouzmanoff ‘26 secured third place with their inmate duo. “I saw a filter on TikTok and thought it would make a great Hallowee n costume,” said Reiger. “Quincy loved the idea, and we made it happen.”
The Halloween costume contest was a testament to the creativity and enthusiasm of GHS students. Congratulations to all the winners and participants! We can’t wait to see what next year’s contest brings.
