With all the different classes GHS has to offer, many students have their favorite and least favorite classes. When it comes to what makes a class a student’s favorite, it’s all about the people in it, the subject being taught, the vibes of the classroom, and what teacher is instructing.
For Mason Smith ‘26, his favorite class is his B1 gym class with Mr. Decker. “I have a stacked class,” Smith comments. “I appreciate how active and involved Mr. Decker is with his students, no glaze.” Smith ‘26 cherishes the connections and realness of his gym class, therefore making gym class his favorite.
Cameron Einsweiler ‘26 also has similar experiences when deciding what class is her favorite. “For me, my publications class with Mrs. Bookless is my favorite class at GHS,” Einsweiler ‘26 shares. Getting to see her friends Ell Law ‘27 and Lily Kern ‘25 during A4 always brightens and betters her day. This goes to show how having valuable friendships in a class can make a class all that more exciting.
While some people are all about the people in the class, some are more about the subject of the class. Beckett Simpson ‘25 stated, “My Business class has easily become my favorite class this school year because I have a genuine interest in what we are learning.” This conveys how when classes that are offered peak student’s interest, we see more of an engagement and enjoyment from students.
But for some students, they simply just don’t have a favorite class, senior Lily Kern is one of those students. “None of my classes spark an interest in me, and I only take them because I have too,” she said. “It’s not about the students or teachers, just the actual work itself pushes me away to enjoy the class.” This displays how some students just don’t strive as well in school environments and all they can do is make the best out of each class.
No matter what aspects of a class makes it a students favorite, all teachers should strive to create an environment for students that will urge students to show up ready to learn and participate each and every day.
