Other Nominations
Drew Koenigs Varsity Basketball – Coach Matt Wienen said, “ In the 3 games this week, Drew averaged 11 points and 9 rebounds while helping our team go 2-1 for the week. In games vs Cuba City and Rockford Christian, Drew had a double-double (10 points-10 rebounds). Drew has worked extremely hard this past offseason on and off the court and it’s paying off in a big way. He dedicated to the weight room 4 days a week and got shots up almost every day to prepare himself for this season. He has been one of most consistent players in every game he’s played in this season. He is going to be a big contributor for us this season and can’t wait to watch him play the rest of the season.”
Peter Wagner JV Basketball – Peter scored a combined 26 points vs Durand and Rockford Christian this week. Coach Matt Schumacher said, “Peter is a hard worker along with his quickness has made it tough on defense and offense for other teams to plan for.”
Seven Smith Speech – On Saturday at the DeKalb Corn Classic, Seven’s first ever speech tournament, he placed second in the novice division of Original Comedy. “Seven worked really hard in the weeks leading up to the tournament,” said GHS Speech Coach Susan Bookless. “He wrote his own comedy script, created voices for his characters and had three great performances. Seven is naturally talented, and I cannot wait to see where he goes this season. I expect great things from him.”
Layla Schemehorn Wrestling – Coach Quincy Kalkbrenner said, “Layla won her first ever wrestling match by pin. In that match I didn’t even recognize Layla, she changed to a different person! She has got aggression that will tear girls up in her weight class. She is hungry to learn and isn’t afraid to get in your face to mix it up. She will continue gaining experience and by the end of the season I think she has the potential to get to the top of the podium.”
