Social media and streaming sites are everywhere…Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, Disney Plus, etcetera, etcetera. Almost everyone utilizes some sort of app or streaming service to watch their movies and TV shows, no question about it. But what are people’s favorite kind of streaming service? And what do people like better, movies or TV shows? And how much time do they spend watching videos?
Given the convenience of streaming, one might assume that TV shows dominate, and that assumption is false. As said before, there are a plethora of sites to watch movies on, but what is the favorite? In a poll conducted by the GHS Pubs team, 93.3% of people say they watch Netflix more, with Prime Video placed second most in the poll at 70%. “I like watching Netflix most,” Brant Romer ‘27 stated. “ I mainly watch Suits.”
To answer another question, a quick inquiry between students resulted in the deduction that movies are typically given more watch time than TV shows. The students and faculty of Galena High School have stated that 93.3% recommend watching movies. The primary genre of movies most like to watch are princess movies, including Rapunzel, The Princess and the Frog, and The Princess Bride. “My favorite movies are Tangled and The Harry Potter series,” said McKaylah Sites ‘26. “I love to rewatch these movies to see the story that lies behind the screen.”
While movies and TV shows are entertaining to watch, how much time does the average person watch them? Well, the average person watches about 100 movies a year and watches about 2.5-3 hours a day of TV shows. People at Galena High School love to watch movies, and the average time they spend watching is around 2 hours daily. Baker Conley ‘27 said he watches movies/ TV about “1-2 hours a day.”
Streaming services will only start to become more popular than they are now. With technology advancing, the people will get an even more plentiful variety of movies to be able to watch. Whether they are watching the latest show, enjoying a new movie, or trying to find something new to experiment with, one thing that they will always love is their favorite movie and TV show.
