The Galena Pirates girls basketball team faced a tough challenge on December 14, falling to Cuba City 72-39.
The Pirates struggled to find their rhythm early on, trailing 19-38 at the end of the first quarter. Despite a slow start, they maintained a steady scoring pace throughout the game. Gracie Furlong ’25 and Leah Heller ’27 led the scoring effort with 13 points each. “We started the game strong, which gave us the momentum to finish just as strong,” said Heller.
At halftime, the Pirates faced a significant deficit, trailing 19-38. Kendra Bauer ’27 contributed 5 points, including 2 in the first half. “She works hard during practice, and it shows during the game,” said Ell Law ’27.
The third quarter saw continued dominance from Cuba City. Heller scored 5 points, while Furlong added 4. Ell Law ’27 fouled out during the quarter.
The loss leaves the Galena girls with a 4-5 overall record. However, they remain determined to persevere and see how the rest of the season unfolds.
