Pirate Competitor of the Week – Leah Heller Girls Basketball
Coach Jamie Watson said, “Leah Heller is averaging 12 pts 5 rebounds per/game. She was almost 40% from the 3 point range over winter break. Last 2 games she made 6-3s against LeWin and 4-3s against Winnebago, both team wins! Leah has had a great couple weeks for us. She is one of our best defenders and continues to play a big role for us on the offensive end. Leah is such a hard worker and we’re excited to see how the rest of her season progresses.”

Reid Holland JV Boys Basketball – Coach Matt Schumacher said, “Reid scored 33 points in 4 tough games at the Fulton tournament over Christmas Break. Reid’s ability to play as a guard and in the post helped the team go 2-2 on the weekend.”
Julia Dominiak Speech – On Saturday at the United Township Speech Tournament, Julia placed in the varsity division in two events. She took 2nd place in Original Oratory and 6th Place in Extemporaneous Speaking. Coach Susan Bookless said, “Julia has worked really hard this season to be prepared for the competition. She has written an effective speech and has worked closely with other members of the team helping them become better speakers. Julia has big goals for this year and wants to qualify for the state tournament. “If she keeps working like she has been said Mrs. Bookless, speech coach. “I do not doubt that she will achieve her goal!.”

Girls Basketball – Congratulations to Gracie Furlong who scored her 2000th point in her career at the State Farm Classic over break. Gracie is the first Galena basketball player to ever score 2000 points in a career. Great job Gracie!! Coach Jamie Watson also picked up his 300th career win. Great job Coach Watson! Both Gracie and Coach Watson were honored before the game against Le-Win last Friday.
The girls basketball team placed 5th with a 2-1 record at the State Farm Classic at Bloomington over break. Gracie Furlong was named to the all-tournament team.
