The Galena Pirates demolished the Orangeville Broncos on Monday, January 6. The final score was 49 to 42. Number four, Gracie Furlong ‘25 scored the most points out of all the players in the game. “Even though I scored the most points in the overall game, the win was more important than anything else,” she said. “It was a good team to win against.”
At halftime, the Pirates were up by four. The third quarter rolled around, and the Pirates and Broncos were tied at 34 points. In the last quarter, the Pirates scored 10 points more than the Broncos. “Going into the game, I felt a little nervous, but I knew I had to go into the game and give it my all,” said freshman, Ava Merrit. “I always know that I have my team there for me, so that also helps to go into it, and we ended up going out with a win.”
“The win at Orangeville was a big one for us,” said Coach Watson. “They’re a top 5 team in the State rankings right now and we showed that we belong and we can play with anyone.” The girls are working hard and improving, they plan to make some noise in the postseason. It was a big confidence boost for the girls. This game is another win for the Pirates and it gets them one step closer to regional. There are many more games in the future and we hope to see you there supporting them in their season.
