The Pirates beat the Pretzels in a close nail bitter ending 56-54 Galena. Gracie Furlong ‘25 led the team with 29 of the Pirate’s 56 points. The game itself was fast-paced and a tough defensive battle.
The Pirates took an early lead against the Pretzels in the first quarter with the Pirates hitting 4 threes with 2 coming from Furlong ‘25. “I felt the game was just coming to me that day,” said Furlong ‘25. “My shot felt confident and I understood the game on another level.”
In the second quarter, it was Leah Heller ‘27 hitting 2 threes to keep the Pirates in the lead going into the half 30-29. “It felt good hitting those shots and seeing the spark grow going into the half,” said Heller ‘27.
After the half Furlong ‘25 took over the game dropping 11 points in the third to keep the game close 44-45 pretzels up one. In the final stretch, Heller ‘25 hit a clutch three to give the spark the Pirates needed to win the game 56-54.
Furlong ‘25 had a tremendous game scoring 29 of her team’s 56 points. She went even from the field with 4 twos and 4 threes.
The Pirates had a great overall game and had two players having 15+ points. Their defense is unmatched by keeping the Pretzels from having a single-player score over 15. The Pirates are now 9-7 on the year and are playing the West Carroll Thunder at home on January 14.
