GHS is entering the IHSA Drama Short Film competition, where we’ll create our very own 5-minute movie! Don’t miss the informational meeting on Tuesday, January 21, during homeroom in Ms. AB’s room.
Congrats to the Scholastic Bowl Team on sweeping all four matches at Dakota yesterday. Liliana Asta led the varsity scoring with 9 correctly answered tossups in the two matches. Justin Lin, Macklan Murphy, and Quin Wells each had four, and Lex Abt added 2 more. In the JV games, Evon Main came up with 11 correct tossup answers, and Andy Issleb chipped in another 8. Ellimena Henderson and Seven Smith each came up with 2 more.
Get ready to sparkle and shine at the Winter Formal on Saturday, January 25th! Doors open at 7:00 PM and close at 7:30 PM, with the dance concluding at 9:00 PM. Don’t miss this exciting event! One lucky student will win an iPad! To enter the giveaway, simply attend the Winter Formal. Increase your chances by purchasing extra entries at the door for $5 each. Additionally, students can pay $1 during homeroom on Thursday, January 23rd for a chance to shoot a half-court shot. Make the shot and earn an extra entry into the iPad giveaway! Mark your calendars and get ready for a night of fun and dancing!
There will be a sign-up sheet in the library for anyone interested in volunteering for the Winter Special Olympics. This event will be held at Chestnut Mountain Resort on Thursday, February 13th which is a “B” day. We need 10 non-skiers for result runners and timers and 15 ski/snowboard assistants. Students must be in good standing academically and attendance-wise prior to the event. If you would like to be a ski or snowboard assistant, you can rent equipment at Chestnut at your own expense. Transportation will be provided by the school district to and from Chestnut. You will not be permitted to drive. Thank you!

- Tuesday: Baked Goods Sale! Enjoy delicious treats for only $1.00. Purchase before school or during lunches.
- Wednesday: Guess the Candy! The person closest to guessing the number of candies in the jar wins the whole jar & FREE Winter Formal tickets (non-transferrable).
- Thursday: White Out! Wear white to show your school spirit. Also, don’t miss your chance to shoot a half-court shot in homeroom for an extra entry to win the iPad!
- Friday: PJ Day & The Spot will be selling refreshing drinks in the cafeteria. Only $5.00!
Are you bringing a non-Galena student to the Winter Formal? If so, you must pick up a permission slip in Mrs. Rosenthal’s room. All permission slips must be turned in by Friday, Jan. 24, at 8:00 AM. Late submissions will not be accepted. Make sure to plan ahead and get your permission slip in on time. Let’s make Winter Formal a night to remember!
