The Galena Girls Basketball team faced off against West Carroll on Tuesday, January 14 with the final score of 53-21. Dani Hulscher ‘26 had an amazing game. In the first quarter, she scored a 3-pointer and dominated the board, she scored again in the 3rd quarter for a total of 2 points. “I think I played well. Even though I missed a few shots I still kept trying and started shooting even more. As a team we all did well and moved the ball well,” she said. The game started slowly and then quickly picked up.
In the first quarter, the Pirates pulled ahead with a 2-point lead. Gracie Furlong ‘25 started the quarter off strong by scoring 10 points. Furlong was the lead scorer in the first quarter and helped the Pirate’s gain their lead.
The Pirates were able to maintain their lead and push ahead by 13 points. Furlong was the lead scorer again in the 2nd quarter and scored 12 points. “I think we played well and we were excited that we had a huge lead against West Carroll,” she said. At halftime, the girls were up by 13 points with a score of 33-10.
Leah Heller ‘27 had a great third quarter and helped score 8 of the 14 points in the third. The Pirates kept up their great defense and only allowed West Carroll to score 4 points in the quarter.
The Pirates started to slow down in the fourth. Kendra Bauer ‘27, the only scorer in the quarter, made two 3-pointers. West Carroll started to pick up their game, but the Pirates’ lead was just too big for them to catch up.
The game ended with the Pirates getting the win. “It was very exciting to play my old teammate and see the difference between our skill levels. I was very happy when we won,” said Ell Law ‘27.
The Galena Pirates will play next at Byron for the Byron Tournament.
