Galena High School Boys Basketball traveled to West Carrol to play an exciting basketball game with a final score of 74-31. Junior Drew Koenigs had a total of 16 points in the game. Mason Smith was close behind with a total of 13 points. Freshman Jack Vincent had a chance to play on varsity last night. Vincent said, “It was a great experience to play, and I’m happy that I can be a part of the team.” Basketball Player Mason Smith said, “The game was very slow, and not many exciting things happened.”
In the first quarter, the Pirates scored 21 points while West Carroll Thunder scored 16 points. Owen Hefel ‘26 scored 8 of those points with Mason Smith ‘26 close behind with 6 points. West Carroll Thunder basketball player Schnitzler scored 10 out of the 16 points that West Carrol made in the first quarter. In the first half, the Pirates basketball team had 4 team fouls on them while West Carrol had 3 team fouls.
In the second quarter, the Galena Pirates kept the lead 36-22. The Galena Pirates scored 15 points while West Carrol scored 6 points. Andrew Koenigs ‘26 made a three-pointer during the second quarter as well as a 2 pointer. From West Carrol Schnitzler, LaBorn, and Buchholz all made a 2-pointer each to get 6 points in total during the second quarter.
The third quarter the Galena Pirates were still in the lead with a score of 59-29. In the third quarter, the Pirates scored 23 points while West Carrol scored 7 points. Koenigs ‘26 scored 4 2-pointers and made 1 out 2 free throws. Sam Amaya had 2 free throw shots and made 1 out of 2 of his shots as well. In the third quarter, Roman Romer ‘26 made a three-pointer helping bring up the points.
During the fourth quarter, the Pirates were still in the lead with a final score of 74-31. The Pirates scored 15 points while West Carrol scored 2 points in the final quarter. Freshman Jack Vincent scored 10 out of the 15 points in the last quarter. Peter Wagner ‘27 shot 2 free throw shots but wasn’t able to make any of them. Wagner did make a 3-pointer to bring up the points more.
This was an amazing game for the Galena Boys Basketball team with an overall record of 13-9. West Carroll has an overall record of 6-16. “We have been very successful vs West Carrol for a while now. It felt great getting a win after we lost our last 2,” said Roman Romer ‘26
