Coming into the ‘25 prom season means a lot of planning and a lot of money from the Junior class. Students and parents have been hard at work putting together a memorable and safe night for GHS students and guests after the dance. With the prom theme Hollywood, as much money raised as possible is necessary to ensure a night of fun and glam for the students after prom. So the class decided on a monthly end-of-the-month donut sale to help contribute to the cost.
Junior mom, Nikki Frank, took charge of this idea and made it come to life. “I figured this would be an easy and quick way to make money in support of my daughter’s class,” Frank commented, “and who doesn’t love a good donut?” Staying local, we supply our donuts from Casey’s which gives us a deal on our multiple boxes of donuts each Friday to help maximize our profits.
In order to spread out the workload, each month a different junior mom accompanied by their son/daughter works the table in the morning to help sell as many donuts as possible. “I’ve done it with my mom and we sold out of almost all the donuts by 7:50!” Mya McCoy ‘26 said. This goes to show the popularity of these donut sales and students come rushing in with their $2.
Zoe Blaum ‘27 said one of her favorite parts of the month is being able to get a sweet treat before class on Fridays when the donuts are for sale. “The excitement I have is unmatched for a sweet treat, and I’m glad my money is also going to a good cause!” Blaum shared. Senior Molly Beadle also shares a similar passion for these donut sales and says she is overjoyed when she realizes it’s the last Friday of the month. “I’m a usual at Casey’s in the morning so with the Juniors selling them, it saves me a trip and also gives me some extra time to sleep in which is always a plus,” Beadle said.
As well as money from the donut sales, the community has been a huge contributor to funds for after prom. Many local businesses and banks have contributed to the cause. One of them is the local First Community Apple River State Bank. “I knew my bank would be a helping hand to this cause and all I had to do was ask, and the bank came through with their unwavering support for the community!” said Junior class mom, Marcy Doyle.
We hope to have a safe and fun after-prom for all GHS attendees and this is all possible with support from students, parents, and community members. Wishing all an exciting prom season!
