The Galena boys basketball team faced off against Stockton on Tuesday, February 4 with the final score of 51-22. Owen Hefel ‘26 had a good game. ”It was a good game and it felt good to defeat Stockton,” he said. Hefel dominated the boards and was the lead scorer.
In the first quarter, the boys had pulled ahead with a 5-point lead. Mason Smith ‘26 started the quarter out strong by making two-pointers “We were on a losing streak so it felt really good winning,” he said.
The Pirates maintained their lead and pushed ahead by 11 points. Drew Koenings ‘26 was the lead scorer in the 2nd quarter with a total of 4 points all from the free-throw line. At half time the boys were up by 11 points with the score of 23-12.
In the third quarter, the Pirates kept up their great defense and only allowed Stockton to score 6 points. The pirates widened their lead by 25 points. Hefel was on a shooting streak in the third and scored 1 two-pointer and 2 three-pointers.
The boys started to slow down in the fourth and only scored 8 points. They were able to keep their lead by 29 points. Stockton started to pick up their game but the Pirate’s lead was just too big for them to catch up.
The game ended with the Pirates getting the win. After a long losing streak, the boys were happy when they walked away with the win.
The boys will play at Scales Mound next.
