Megan had 15 points and 7 rebounds to help us get the victory. Megan has continued to improve her game throughout this season. She is a very hard worker and a great listener. Megan has become a huge part of our team this season and with her work ethic, she is going to be a great player for our program.”

Luna Pham Band – Luna was selected to represent Galena in the Tri-State Honor Band festival on Saturday, February 15. Band Director Michael Suau said, “Luna was accepted into this honor band, being the youngest of selected students to be assigned the Basson 1 part. She was also given an honorable first chair placement at the ILMEA District 8 festival last November. Luna’s excellent playing, matched with her can-do attitude and overall positivity for all things music, is just wonderful to have as part of our band. Not only does she strive to do her best, but she gives space and encouragement for others to see success as well! Good luck, Luna!”
Andy Issleb JV Scholastic Bowl – In Scholastic Bowl this week against River Ridge, Freshman Andy Issleb scored a team-high 19 tossups out of 48 (39%) on their way to leading GHS to a two-game sweep of the Wildcats. In their first game, Andy correctly answered 9 tossups to help Galena’s JV achieve a season-high 510 points in a single game, and in the second game, they served as captain while scoring 10 tossups, setting a season-high mark for a single game. JV Coach Ben Jenkins said, “Andy’s knowledge of earthquakes, protons, Big Bird, and Napoleon have helped give the JV squad an 11-1 record thus far this year.”
Chesnie Rosenthal 8th Grade Basketball – Coach Tim Rigdon said, “Chesnie never takes a play off, has no fear, dives on the floor, and goes after every loose ball. She has grit and a desire for the game of basketball. These skills along with being an excellent defender and rebounder help her stand out. She is also a consistent scorer. Chesnie is a player that all coaches want and need on their team.”
Berkeley Sincock 7th Grade Basketball – Coach Lindsey Vincent commented, “Berkeley has worked so hard on her defense and has contributed to our winning season. Berkeley has a big responsibility inside the lane and has shown that she can rebound and defend all who enter the paint. It has been fun to watch her become more confident in her skills and respect her ability to score. Berkeley has stepped it up and in the last two games scored in double digits. She is an all around player and continues to work hard. She is a great teammate and always has a smile on her face.”
Myles Schumacher Boys Basketball – This week in 3 games Myles averaged 10 points, 9 rebounds, 2 steals, and 4 deflections a game. Coach Matt Wienen said, “his biggest attribute to our team last week was guarding the other team’s best player. Myles’ defense has been unbelievable in the last couple of games. He is shutting down our opponent’s best player and that has been a huge reason for our 3-0 this past week. In our final game of the week vs Fulton, Myles made some huge plays on the offensive end with back-to-back three-pointers and came up with the game-ending block to get us a big road win. He is one of the most athletic players I’ve had the privilege to coach! His first two steps are so quick, that it is tough for opponents to guard him on offense and to get by him while he is guarding them. I’m super excited for Myles and all the hard work he puts in day-in-day-out. Keep up the hard work buddy!”
