Good luck to the scholastic bowl varsity team as they compete with Stockton today at home. The conference championship may be determined by today’s varsity matches! Come see the teams in action at 4. The varsity will meet in the library, and the JVs in Mrs. Calfee’s room. Team members should report to the competition rooms after school to set up.
Congratulations to the GHS Speech Team who placed 5th out of 10 teams at the IHSA Regional at Sterling High School on Saturday. Placing in the top 4 in their events and moving on to the Sectional Tournament at Freeport High School on Saturday are: Macklan Murphy – 4th place in Informational Speaking, Julia Dominiak – 3rd Place in Original Oratory; Liliana Asta – 2nd Place in Oratorical Declamation; Evon Main – 2nd Place in Radio Speaking and Julia Dominiak who was the Regional Champion in Extemporaneous Speaking. Also receiving awards on Saturday were: Caitlin Kennedy – 5th Place in Special Occasion Speaking and 6th in Poetry Reading; Adison Letzinger – 7th in Prose Reading and Humourous Duet Acting; Seven Smith – 6th in Original Comedy and 7th in Humorous Duet Acting. Good Luck to those who are moving on, and congrats on a great season to those who are not.
Congratulations to Pirate Competitor of the week, Megan Koenigs Girls Basketball Coach Jamie Watson said, “Megan had a big week for us, finishing with a career-high at River Ridge/Scales Mound helping us get a big conference win on Friday night. Megan had 15 points and 7 rebounds to help us get the victory. Megan has continued to improve her game throughout this season. She is a very hard worker and a great listener. Megan has become a huge part of our team this season and with her work ethic, she is going to be a great player for our program.”
