On Friday, February 7 during homeroom at the end of the day, Josh McNett and Will Anderson signed to play football at Upper Iowa College in Fayette, Iowa. Upper Iowa is a Division II football team. Will Anderson is an offensive lineman and Josh McNett is a tight end for football.
McNett said, “I am very excited to attend Upper Iowa. I went there for a visit and all everyone could talk about was how much of a family they all are. I chose this college because of the people and coaches, who are also very welcoming. They care about their players, unlike some other colleges. I got a scholarship to play the sport I love, I am taking the chance they gave me and I will work hard to achieve my goals.”
McNett and Anderson are pretty close friends and those boys were very excited to be signing together and playing football at the same college.l Anderson said, “It was a surreal moment for me, all of the work that I have put into football finally came together. The fact that I was able to go through the experience with Josh made it better.”
McNett has been playing football for thirteen years (K-12) and plans to continue playing throughout college at Upper Iowa. McNett said, “I love playing football, it’s pretty much my life and I worked hard throughout the years in order to play college football. My favorite memory of football is my senior year making a run to the quarter-finals with my friends and family.”
Anderson received five awards his senior year of high school including 1st Team All-State OL 2024, 1st Team All-Conference OL 2024, 2nd Team All-Conference DL 2024, All-Area TH Selection OL 2024, and Tim Rigdon MVP OL Award 2024.
McNett received four awards during his senior year of high school including 2nd Team All-Conference TE 2024, 2nd Team All-Conference Punter 2024, Kris Knautz Memorial Award Winner 2024, and was also selected to play in the Illinois High School All-Star Shrine Game this coming summer in June. Coach Ed Freed said, “Will and Josh both had good careers for us at Galena. They both worked hard and were good leaders for our program. We wish them the best at Upper Iowa.”
In conclusion, McNett and Andersonl both had a very successful career playing football at Galena High School and are both excited to be continuing their football career at Upper Iowa together.
