Pirate Competitor of the Week – Julia Dominiak Speech
This week Julia was the only team member to advance to the final round at the IHSA sectional tournament. She ended the season with a 5th place finish in Extemporaneous speaking – missing advancing to state by only two places. Coach Susan Bookless said, “Julia has grown so much as a public speaker this year and it has been so amazing to watch her gain confidence. As captain of the Speech Team, she has been a leader amongst her peers this year and helped create a sense of comradery on the team and making it an absolute joy to spend long Saturdays together. She will be a missed member of the team next year.”
Other Nominations
Drew Ehler MS Wrestling – Drew went 4-0 with four pins, three in the first period. Drew has six wins this year and five of them by pin. Coach Gary Webster said, “This is Drew’s first year of wrestling and has really come on strong the last few weeks and developed a great pinning combination.”
Zoe Smith MS Wrestling – Zoe Smith went 3-1 in last week’s wrestling meets with two pins, both in the first period. Coach Webster said, “Zoe works extremely hard in the wrestling room and her effort is paying dividends. Zoe has a favorite takedown, practices it hard and it’s working for her.”
Jacob Loso JV Boys Basketball – Coach Matt Schumacher said, “Jacob scored a combined 22 points in the last 3 games. He has good skills at the pivot and as a passer which has helped the team to a 17-7 record.”
