Galena High School Boys Basketball Team stayed on their home basketball court at GHS to play against the Warren High School Boys Basketball Team with a tough loss. The final score was 61-53. Junior Mason Smith had 15 points during the game, the highest out of all players on the team. Smith said, “Going into the game was big and exciting but then it was not fun coming out of the game with a loss.” Warren senior basketball player Patford had the highest points of 18 during the game.
In the first quarter, the Pirates scored 12 points while the Warriors scored 21. The Pirates had some trouble scoring baskets during the first quarter of the game. Senior player Patford from Warren scored two 2-pointers and 1 three-pointer. Galena Pirates and Warren Warriors both were tied up with a total of 5 team fouls. During the game, Roman Romer ‘26 shot the ball, scored 2 points, and then got fouled to get one free throw shot and scored another point. Romer said, “I felt very disappointed that we didn’t play well against them again.”
In the second quarter, the Pirates had a score of 25 while the Warriors had 31. The Warriors were still in the lead while Sam Amaya scored 5 out of the 13 points in that quarter being the highest point scorer in the second quarter. The Warren Warriors only scored 9 points during the second quarter but were still in the lead with Nieman scoring 3 of the 9 points.
In the third quarter the Warren Warriors were in the lead still with a score 45-34 at the end of the quarter. During the second half the Warren Warriors had a total of 8 team fouls while the Pirates had a total of 9 team fouls. Romer had a 2 pointer shot then got fouled to have a chance to shoot a free throw but missed.
During the fourth quarter, the Pirates were still falling behind and ended with a total score of 61-53. Warren basketball player Patford scored a 2 pointer shot and had the chance to shoot 3 free throws and made all of them. Amaya ‘26 said, “It was definitely a rough game and I was disappointed that we lost.”
In conclusion, this was a rough game for the Galena Boys Basketball Team with an overall record of 16-13 after that game. At the time Warren had a record of 21-7.
