The Galena Pirates Girls’ Basketball Team achieved a thrilling victory against the East Dubuque Warriors on January 24, winning a tightly contested matchup with a final score of 42-37. This game proved the rivalry and intense competition between these two teams.
Beginning at tip-off, both teams showed they were prepared for a tough matchup. The first half was a tough watch for Pirates fans, with neither team able to establish a dominant lead. The Pirates managed to hold a slim 1-point advantage at halftime, with the score resting at 18-17 entering the second half. The third quarter ended in a score of 32-28 with the Pirates realizing they had to quickly get their heads back in the game. Through grit and strength, the Pirates powered through and pulled out with the win.
Gracie Furlong ‘25 delivered a standout performance against the Warriors, leading all players with 31 points. Her energy and shooting kept Galena within the game. Reflecting on her performance, Furlong said, “Quote from Gracie,”
