The Galena Pirates went head-to-head with East Dubuque for the chance of being Regional Champions. This game could not have been a better game to watch. It was a back-and-forth game with lots of runs and a heated rivalry.
In the first quarter Leah Heller ‘27 was hot and was ready to go scoring 9 of their 12 points in the first quarter. She was displaying her ability to get to the rim and being able to finish around the rim and get to the free-throw line. “After my first shot went in the game came to me and I was really excited to see all my hard work pay off,” said Heller ‘27.
In the second quarter, it was Dani Rae Hulscher ‘26 and Kendra Bauer ‘27 hitting their shots from beyond the arch. They each had a 3 to keep Galena in the lead by 6 points. At the end of the first half, it was 27-21 Galena. “It felt so great with all my friends there to cheer me on,” said Hulcher ‘26, “That was the reason I was able to hit my 3.”
In the third quarter, it was senior Gracie Furlong ‘25 showing off her ability to score from anywhere on the court. She got to the rim, the free throw line, and hit her threes. With her help, she gave her team an even bigger lead going into the fourth quarter 43-31. “It’s my senior season and I want to go out with an impactful finish,” said Furlong ‘25
In the final quarter, Ell Law made sure to solidify their victory by giving 4 hard-earned points and getting to the free-throw line 4 times. “It has been a long and tiring season. I am excited for the postseason but also am ready for a break,” said Law ‘27.
The game was a magnificent display of defensive abilities and offense. The Pirates were able to keep East Dubuque under 40 points and kept the pace of the game throughout. The Pirates claimed their victory and accepted their plaque once again. The final score of the game was 57-38.
